Cima Coppi of Lower Austria - a real challenge! The mountain stage into the skiing and hiking area with gradients of up to 25% on the last two kilometers.
The route starts in Waidhofen an der Ybbs and initially runs flat along the Ybbs to Hollenstein - ideal for rolling in. From the village square in Hollenstein, the route becomes steadily steeper up the Sandgraben to the Promau hilltop and leads directly past the popular Mendlingtal Excursion destinations towards Lassing to the start of the ascent to the Hochkar.
From the former toll station, there are practically no more flat sections, only after 3km does the mountain descend a little for 500m. Otherwise, the gradient is always around 10%, and only shortly before the (upper) parking lot at the valley station of the Hochkar cable cars does it pick up again. However, the last 2.3 km on the summit access road are the most difficult with a maximum gradient of 25% and another 250 meters in altitude to the Berghaus at 1780m above sea level.
Tip: You can collect your well-earned medal in gold, silver or bronze (depending on your time) from the restaurants or the tourist office if you provide proof of your ascent time (Strava, Garmin, etc.).
On the return journey out of the valley, there is only the ascent over the Große Kripp (2.5 km, max. 10%) to contend with on otherwise flat to slightly sloping terrain.
