Promau lies at the heart of the nature park at an altitude of 800 metres and is characterised by flat alpine pastures surrounded by wooded countryside. Historically, it lies on a mule track between the Erzberg and Waidhofen/Ybbs.
The open landscape creates a magnificent panorama with unobstructed views of the rock formations of the Voralpe, one of the Hollenstein local mountains.
The views, the tranquillity and the lack of mobile phone reception make Promau a liberating retreat for tourists and locals alike.
On Saturday, 19 September 2020, the official opening of the Eisenstraße Leader project “Experiencing and enjoying the nature park together” took place on the Promau, the heart of the Lower Austrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park.
The stunning panorama and musical accompaniment by the Hollenstein-based “Hea’ Haufn” ensured a cosy atmosphere.
The Hinterramskogler family (Farm School) delighted the young naturalists with a creative corner: “All about nature”.
With fantastic support from the Eisenstraße Leader region, particularly from Mr Stefan Hackl and Ms Gudrun Hofbauer, the nature park team led by Christina Forsthuber, chair of the Lower Austrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park Association, was able to embark on this project.
At the heart of the area, a multi-generational, accessible and inclusive playground was created for running around and relaxing, as well as a barbecue area for cosy get-togethers.
The treasure hunt trail, located in the nature park municipality, has been transformed into the “Spitzhiatl Challenge” and offers exciting tasks. All stations along Sandgrabenstraße and on the Promau have been re-signposted and supplemented with nature conservation information.
All promotional materials, as well as the entire promotional identity with a new logo and CI, have been modernised. As part of this, the website has also been relaunched and can be visited at www.naturpark-eisenwurzen.at.
Despite all these updates, however, the “Spitzhiatl” mascot remains a constant companion to the nature park.
This project was not just about building a playground or modernising the facilities, but rather about repositioning the nature park and making it more attractive, or rather making the nature park accessible to EVERYONE as a local recreation area.
In recent months in particular, we have all become more aware once again of how important an intact natural environment is and how valuable access to it can be.
That is why the Lower Austria Eisenwurzen Nature Park is focusing its efforts on raising awareness among children and young people and will soon be welcoming all educational institutions in Hollenstein as part of the nature park.
The facilities offer a varied programme of activities for groups, which can also be booked by schools from outside the area.
The Lower Austria Eisenwurzen Nature Park would like to thank the municipality of Hollenstein an der Ybbs for its active support, FC Hollenstein and everyone involved for this successful opening celebration.
