Four nature park schools

Education through nature experiences

In the Lower Austrian Eisenwurzen Nature Park, education in and with nature plays a central role. Through our accredited nature park schools, such as Hollenstein PrimarySchool, Hollenstein SecondarySchool, Hohenlehen AgriculturalCollege and Unterleiten AgriculturalCollege, we focus on conscious learning closely linked to the environment. Here, children and young people experience nature and environmental protection first-hand – whether through projects, nature park days or collaborative activities that spark curiosity and enthusiasm.

Our nature park schools stand for lively, hands-on learning: children of different age groups benefit from one another, discover the diversity of nature and develop an awareness of ecological interdependencies. The close cooperation between school, nature park and local community makes education here a special experience and strengthens the younger generation’s connection to the region.

The ‘Education’ pillar in the Austrian Nature Park’s four-pillar model – alongside conservation, recreation and regional development – demonstrates how learning and experiencing nature can go hand in hand. In this way, our schools become educational centres within the nature park, where the nature park’s philosophy is put into practice throughout the school year.
