Details for: Classic Saurüssel route

Brief description

Short and relatively easy route through the Ybbs valley with a detour into the Enns valley. Ideal warm-up route for a few cycling days or as a classic "after-work ride".

Description

After starting in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, you initially follow the Ybbs upstream. There are no significant climbs in the first hour in the Ybbs valley.

Turn right in Klein-Hollenstein and after one kilometer the pleasant climb to the "Saurüssel" begins: some curves, always in the relaxed single-digit percentage range, before it goes slightly downhill into the Enns valley. In Weyer we turn sharply right at the marketplace and pedal gently uphill to Gaflenz and further to Oberland. The last 8 kilometers of this "roller round" go quickly and slightly downhill back to our starting point in Waidhofen.

Notes:

As an alternative to the flat ascent on the Saurüssel, the "old Saurüssel road" is recommended. At the start of the climb (small bridge), turn left and follow the ascent. The road then later flows into the descent to Weyer.

Author's tip

In the Ybbs valley (after the roundabout in Gstadt, turn half-left) the Ybbs valley cycle path offers an alternative to the state road B31.
